The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to improving the quality of life by creating a safe environment in partnership with the people we serve. GREENE COUNTY JAIL

The Greene County Jail is located at 403 Seventh Street, in Carrollton, Illinois. The current jail was constructed in 1974, and had major renovations performed in 2024. The jail has 21 beds, with a current average daily population of 13. The Greene County Jail houses inmates charged with felonies, misdemeanors, sentenced inmates, and other various cases. The facility is managed by the Sheriff and Chief Deputy, with the assistance of 4 full-time Correctional Officers, 4 full-time Tele-communicators, and several part-time employees.

Inmate Visiting is conducted on Tuesday’s from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Also, visitation is allowed on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visitation can be adjusted, rescheduled or cancelled depending on the demands placed upon the facility and staff.

CIVIL PROCESS SERVICE

The Sheriff’s Office serves summons and notices for the Greene County Circuit Court. If the case is a civil case, or being served for someone other than a County Office, the Sheriff’s Office is required to collect a fee for the service of these summons or notices. The fee is required in advance of the service of the document. Contact the Sheriff’s Office to get estimates of the costs for this service.
